Good to know

  • One AI credit is worth $0.01, so Pro's 1,500 credits are $15 of usage, Pro+'s 7,000 are $70 and Max's 20,000 are $200.
  • Flex credits are an extra allotment on top of each individual plan's base credits.

Questions

How much does GitHub Copilot cost?

GitHub Copilot costs $10 a month for Pro, $39 for Pro+ and $100 for Max, or $19 and $39 a seat for Business and Enterprise. Each plan includes a monthly allowance of AI credits (1 credit = $0.01) that agent and chat requests use up by token.

Is there a free Copilot plan?

Yes. Free: Auto model selection only, limited agents, Copilot CLI and the Copilot app. Limits: An allowance of AI credits; 2,000 code completions a month.

What happens when I reach the Copilot limit?

Since 1 June 2026, Copilot bills agent and chat use in GitHub AI Credits, metered by token. Set a budget to keep working past your allowance; extra credits cost $0.01 each. Code completions with included models don't use credits.

Is Copilot cheaper than paying for the API?

It depends on how much you use it. At API rates, $39 (the Pro+ price) pays for about 40 coding-agent tasks a month on Claude Sonnet 5.5, about 2 a working day, using the workload in the table above. The plan works out cheaper if its limits let you do more than that. GitHub Copilot doesn't publish its limits in tokens, so the only sure test is your own usage.

When were these prices checked?

On 13 Oct 2026, on GitHub's own pricing and help pages, linked from each plan above. Prices are in US dollars and exclude tax.
